CES 2015, with the software transwarp OWC blends HDD and SSD – Macity (Blog)

Other World Computing display at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas “transwarp”, a caching solution that combines SSD and traditional hard drives.

Technology to melt, virtually, traditional hard drives and SSDs, giving the former the speed of the second, which operates as a sort of cache. You transwarp, presented by Other World Computing (OWC), a company specializing in accessories for Mac and PC at CES in Las Vegas.

This software solution defined as “revolutionary and able to redefine the performance of traditional hard drives’ exploits any SSD to logically combine it with a few clicks with a HDD using a caching mechanism ” intelligent “. This system takes into account the data and points that are accessed more frequently, improving the overall performance and leaving intact and secure a copy of the information on the hard disk volume.

Unlike other similar technologies, transwarp allows to remove at any time the SSD without the HDD is damaged or lost data and OWC says that the cache mechanism works without necessarily connect laptops to the power outlet (so even when they are active functions energy-saving operating system). Specific functions allow you to convert a drive in transwarp and vice versa “in minutes”. The developers of the technology are the same ones who created SoftRAID. There are no announcements on when the system will be available, what are the requirements and costs.
