The software ad-block “cost” 21,800,000,000 – Corriere del Ticino

There are many who consider themselves lost dollars in lost advertising revenue in 2015 – And next year could double

ROME – The use of software to block the display of advertising on the web pages will cost $ 21.8 billion globally in 2015, in terms of lost Advertising revenues, and 41.4 billion in 2016.

To say it is a study of Adobe and PageFair, that the number of Internet users who use ‘ad-blocking’ on browsers not to see the commercials are growing exponentially: in late June were 198 million worldwide (+ 41% yoy) and 77 million in Europe.

According to the survey, to use filters to get a lock-spot navigation fluid and for reasons of privacy is 6% of the world’s Internet population, but the cost of nearly 22 billion accounts for 14% of global ad spending.

In the US, users have increased in one year by 48% reaching 45 million individuals, while in Europe the growth was 38% to 77 million. In Europe the use is more massive in Greece (36.7% of Internet users) and in Poland (34.9%), while on the other side of the ranking are France (10.3% of Internet users) and Slovakia ( 8.9%).

Among the browser for PC, 126 million people use a sofware of ad-blocking of Google’s Chrome, Firefox 48 million and 9 million of Apple’s Safari. On smartphones and tablets filters anti-spots are still little used, but according to analysts the situation is likely to change very soon. The version of Safari for iPhone and iPad is in fact 52% of the mobile navigation market, and Apple in autumn will launch the new mobile operating system, iOS 9, which will support these filters.
