LibreItalia Association, the user community of Italian LibreOffice, announced the result of the Coverity Scan test, during which the source code of LibreOffice has achieved excellent results 0 , 08 defects per 1,000 lines of code
In 2013, the index was 0.8 defects per 1,000 lines of code, developers are able to reduce by an order of magnitude over 6,000 solving problems.
Coverity Scan analyzes the source code of proprietary software and open source, and automatically detects the defects (which may result in regressions and bugs, or problems in for developers). The average index for the proprietary software is 0.79 while that for the open source software is 0.59, confirming the fact that behind this there is an attention to quality that proprietary software can not match (because of its development process completely closed).
“The quality of LibreOffice has grown significantly after release release, “says Marina Latini, Vice President and Chief Technical Officer of the Association LibreItalia. “Today, LibreOffice is the best productivity application for the quality of the source code, and this translates to – of course – also in the quality of the program, which is larger by an order of magnitude compared to that of other open source productivity applications.”
The superior quality of the source code of LibreOffice is completed by a larger number of functionality and improved interoperability with proprietary formats – and in particular with Microsoft Office formats – with respect to other open source productivity suite.
