Growing use of software to block ads on all devices except the furniture, but there could be new (INFOGRAPHIC)
Lorenza Chini – The use of blocking software commercials among consumers in the UK is far from reaching cosmic proportions, but it is becoming a ‘ habit increasingly common. The article by eMarketer reports that a study by June 2015 Internet Advertising Bureau UK (IAB UK), conducted by YouGov, found that 15% of adults in Britain using ad blocking software. Meanwhile, a study conducted in February 2015 by Reuters Institut for the Study of Journalism at the University of Oxford, with surveys carried out again by YouGov, showed that almost 40% of Internet users in the UK use such software. One thing that both studies show clearly that the use of ad blockers on mobile devices is not widespread.
The study by Reuters showed that in fact only 7% of internet users in the UK had installed and used such software on a mobile phone, compared with 34% that it was served on a desktop or laptop device. IAB UK study found that among those who had installed and used this kind of software, only 19% had done by phone, against 46% who had used PC desktop and a massive 80% of laptops.
There are several reasons for these numbers, but the main It is that block ads on the phone was not always easy. For example, Google has systematically prohibited such software from its Play Store. It would seem, however, that blocking ads on mobile is becoming easier to use. eMarketer estimates that almost half of advertising spending in the UK in 2016 will go to the mobile channel. With so much money invested in mobile telephony, the rise of ad blockers could have important implications.
