Software free Poland from the responsibility on genocide … – Macity (Blog)

Dall’Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum software to prevent the use of the term ‘Polish concentration camp’ to refer to the concentration camps and internment in which the Nazis ended the Jews.

in May of 2012 Barack Obama committed a gaffe that threatened to cause a diplomatic row with Poland. Delivering a medal for civil valor posthumously to Jan Karski, a former Polish officer who witnessed the atrocities of the Nazis against the Jews, used the phrase “Polish concentration camp” to refer to the concentration camps and internment in which the Nazis exterminated Jews. The Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum has now announced “Remember”, a software for Mac and PC (an add-in for various programs) that should remove the wrong word in applications such as Word, Safari, Keynote, and Outlook.

This is an important distinction for the Polish population. Use the words “Polish death camps” implies responsibility of the Polish people for the atrocities committed by the Third Reich of Germany on Polish soil. The Auschwitz concentration camp was built during the German occupation of Poland, close to what, before the war, was the border between Germany and Poland. The distinction is obvious to those who visit the Museum of Auschwitz-Birkenau Concentration, but apparently there are still those who commit the mistake of giving the Polish language responsibilities in those massacres.

Remember it works the same way as a spell checker: after the installation finds the words, suggesting the correct wording. When it detects words such as “Polish death camps” or “Polish extermination camps” suggests “German extermination camps”, “German death camps” or “German death camps in Poland.” It also supports the Italian language. With Word works as a plug-in integrated with the built-in dictionary in the application.
