Workshop on the use of free software in schools FUSS – Regioni.it

School / Culture – It took place a few days ago a workshop organized at the headquarters of the TIS by the Linux User Group Bolzano (LUGBZ) in collaboration with the FUSS-Free Software project in the Inspectorate schools and the Italian school ‘IDM Südtirol / Alto Adige on “FUSS in schools”.

during the workshop the teachers Michele Di Mauro and Massimo foresaw dell’Istituo “Galilei” of Bolzano, together with some students of the Institute they have shown to the public several examples and practical applications of free software in schools. Specifically are the most used applications were presented in primary and secondary schools of First Instance, the management of online courses with the Institute Fuss Campus platform “Galileo Galilei” and finally were shown practical applications made with Arduino.

the “Free software” is software that respects users’ freedom and community. In short, according to the definition shown in web page LUGBZ, “Free software means that users have the freedom to run, copy, distribute, study, change and improve the software. So it is a matter of liberty, not price.”

the FUSS project started in 2005 as a project financed by the European Social Fund, managed administratively by the Professional School Einaudi of Bolzano which, chose to draw on the expertise and collaboration of Italian company operating in the market iT Free Software, the Truelite company.

From 2006 to 2015 the project continued with the Department teaching staff Training and Education Italian trained to support teachers in teaching and managing the fleet (approximately 4000 desktop and 80 servers) present in the Italian language schools in the province.

Since 2015, the iT Division of the Province of Bolzano has taken delivery of technical assistance.

the Department of education and Italian training offers schools and their teachers some services to enhance their teaching that can go, creating new educational paths and optimize the flow of information between management, secretarial and teachers.
