This guide will explain how to write on a volume formatted in NTFS without using third-party software support. This refers to a NTFS volume to indicate a partition, an entire hard drive or a USB drive. In the example below we use a Mac OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion); attention, though, because each procedure is different depending on the version Mac OS 10.5, 10.6 and 10.9 to the other versions.
For starters check that you have installed third-party software that allow you to write the volumes NSTFS installed on Mac, including demo versions (Paragon NTFS for Mac, Tuxera, NTFS-3G etc.) and proceed entering Applications & gt; Utility and open the Terminal of your Mac. Enter the command sudo nano / etc / fstab and confirm:
Enter your password if required and a new fstab will be created in / private / etc . In terminal nano editor windows type: LABEL = name_of_volume none ntfs rw, auto, nobrowse and replace the word name_of_volume with the exact name of your NTFS volume.
Click CTRL + X , to exit the editor nano & gt; Y to confirm the backup:
Then click Enter for validation:
Following this operation, the selected volume will disappear from the desktop, so will need to reattach it. Open the terminal and type open / Volumes / name_of_volume to go directly to the selected volume or type open / volumes :
The second command opens a window in which they are present in the list the available volumes. To avoid repeating this in the future, drag the window titles in the Favorites in the sidebar Finder , so as to be available in the Favorites to restart interlock of the Mac.
Restore changes Writing on NTFS volume
In case you want to reuse external software to write on an NTFS volume, click Go & gt ; Go to and type / private / etc . Clear the fstab and install the software selection.
