EMC simplifies storage software defined – Tom’s Hardware

EMC announced the new EMC ScaleIO Node, a storage device characterized by an architectural approach and system that unlike previous proposals made exclusively by software, combines the best features of the software ScaleIO within EMC server-end commodity and It makes them available to customers in the form of a packaged solution easy to install and move into production.

The goal that has arisen with the release of the new EMC solution is to ensure that companies can quickly deploy a complete SAN server scale-out type of software-defined through a solution pre-validated, tested and configured.

It should be noted, the company noted that EMC has long vision, which advocates as the scale-out storage type software-defined and supports the various companies and IT organizations to evolve from a world with infrastructure-based storage silos to a conventional storage environment that combines seamlessly converging computing resources and storage resources through ScaleIO.

The service provider Itrica Corporation said to have saved 50% on storage costs and significantly bringing down the operational expenses since installing ScaleIO.

At a functional level solution ScaleIO Node EMC provides:

  • Scalability : the EMC ScaleIO cluster node can scale from 3 ago 1000 nodes on multiple racks.

  •
  • Flexibility : storage resources and those of calculation can be increased or lowered in small or large quantities, “on the fly”, without operational interruption.

  •
  • Flexibility : EMC ScaleIO Node is independent of operating systems and hypervisor, provides 4 different types of chassis and additional options for nets and racks.

  •

The storage managers, however, must wait to have it. EMC ScaleIO Node will be available early in 2016.
