It speaks of the great brain drain from Italy. Graduates, hyper specialized, master abroad, publications and so on, that are found to pack and flee from a country where it is increasingly difficult to do research and experiment. Yet there are those who decided to do the opposite direction, putting himself into play, the professionalism, colliding with the limits and the obstacles of the Italian bureaucracy, because “it is also a matter of roots and the roots have for us Brescia always a great value. ” So says Fabio Badilini, 51, who with Treccani Franco and Daniel Bovio founded Cardio Calm, a small company of telemedicine in Montichiari. But let’s start from the beginning. “In our history – he tells Badilini – yes there is talent, but also a fair amount of opportunities that we took to flight. After graduating in electrical engineering, I did a post-doctorate in the United States and then in France. In Paris I met Franco Treccani, top managers with whom 15 years ago we created Amps-LLC, a company based in the States, but that is one hundred percent “Made in Italy”, as it is added in 2005, a third partner, Daniel Bovio, a physicist and expert in research in telecommunications. ” Amps-llc has become an international benchmark for the analysis of cardiovascular signals, as evidenced by the recognition dell’Honorary Fellowship of the American College of Cardiology.
How did you come to Montichiari?
A decision against the trend.
“Yes, actually I feel a sense of belonging to two different worlds, doing business in the US is more simple, but moving abroad is always difficult, the roots and culture are here. Thanks to ‘experience abroad, once back in Italy I have seen everything from a preferential angle, which enabled me to appreciate the great Italian excellence in cardiology. ”
Compared to the American reality, as you find yourself working in Italy?
“In the United States to found a company takes 15 minutes and the next morning it is already operating. I’m going to tell what are the procedures in Italy … I can only say that there is still l ‘”American Dream”: if you have an idea is all downhill. ”
A strange triptych, an engineer, a manager and a physical.
“We combined the fact of being Italian abroad, but also being friends. For us it is the first rule of business “never do now with friends”! I’m from the scientific world that I needed an experienced partner in the economy as Treccani Franco, and the third, Daniel Bovio, is a ring between us. The beauty is still there after 15 years. ”
Do you work in a field where the medicine is contaminated more and more with other branches of science.
“It’s true, at first an engineer came to the hospital to check the elevator or the printer … Today’s engineers are in the operating room. In our case the “contamination” is thinner, we elaborate software able to read alterations of the cardiovascular signals that are not visible or perceivable to the naked eye. Our secret is to be open, flexible and a dialogue between different worlds. ”
What are the projects CardioCalm?
“Our uniqueness is that we have developed software that can analyze accurately and reliably cardiovascular signals and extract the parameters needed to understand the effect of a drug or to prevent a disease. Our ambition is to put these software available to the world of cardiovascular prevention and stroke, as well as for stress analysis. In this context that a system of tele innovative, which we developed in collaboration with Foundation Poliambulanza and that connects to the cardiology hospital different realities in the area. The common thread of all our projects is to put a new technology at the service of prevention. ”
