Free software arrives State Institute for the Deaf – Corcom

LIBREITALIA

Friday, January 29 will be signed by Professor Ivano Spano , Director of the State Institute for the Deaf in Rome, and Sonia Montegiove, president of the LibreItalia Onlus , a collaboration agreement aimed at supporting the migration project of the Institute to “open source LibreOffice”.

The Institute, a reference point for the deaf population and the different operators can interact with it, begins the path towards the implementation and use of free software in teaching and administrative structure that will lead to the adoption of open formats and free for the production of documents. This in order to understand the importance of shared knowledge and collaboration that are the basis of free software as well as to promote interoperability in the exchange of documents. The project will also enable the Institute considerable savings in terms of licenses that can be reinvested in training (and professional development) of their employees.

“LibreItalia, which last September signed an important agreement with the Ministry of Defense aimed at supporting the activities of migration to the ” open source LibreOffice “ of about 150 thousand positions, will support the project through information seminars and free training courses for trainers Ente “says Spano.

“The collaboration with the Institute -says Montegiove – is valuable because we will learn more about this reality and to develop, together with the operators of the Body, guides on how to develop educational content adapted to deaf people.”

The implementation of LibreOffice will be managed in close collaboration between the two organizations, based on the protocol of reference drawn up by The Document Foundation and according to the best practices of the most important national and international projects.

Immediately after the signing of the agreement will take place the first meeting organized by LibreItalia for the operators of the State Institute for the Deaf, which aims to explain the opportunities of free software and the migration project to LibreOffice.

And ‘this, a pilot experience that opens the door to an extension to those affected, as also by people with disabilities.
