Amazon releases an update software based on Android 4.4 … – HDblog (Blog)

Amazon Software has released an update for its first smartphone on Fire Phone, adding several new features and improvements. But the most significant change relates Software Fire OS, which comes to version 4.6.1 now based on Android 4.4 KitKat. This means that the Amazon Fire Phone is now able to support third-party applications that require KitKat also including some key features of Android 4.4, including support for Bluetooth Low Energy and the support to send items from your phone to a supported printer.

In truth upgrade and especially the timing of release are far from ‘new’. We know that Google released Android 4.4 over a year and a half ago. Since then, the company has also released Android 5.0 and Android 5.1 and the next version of the mobile operating system could get very presto.Tuttavia, upgrading Amazon is significant because the company has launched the Fire to phone in mid-2014 a software version of Amazon Fire OS which is based on the even older Android 4.2.

Fire OS is a customized version of Android, which Amazon uses for its smartphones, tablets and TV box. The operating system comes with a custom user interface for closer integration with the Amazon Appstore but neither includes nor the Google Play Store Play Services.

Among other innovations this version 4.6.1 also includes:

  • A ‘Option to change the Home screen wallpaper
  •

  • Thumbnails notification on the lock screen
  •

  • Support for emoji keyboard in colored –
  •

  • Option automatic in-camera HDR
  •

  • New call options including support for the management of up to 5 people in a conference call and the elimination of all previous calls from history
  •

  • New messaging options, including the ability to delete or forward messages in a conversation or swipe to delete conversations.

  •
  • Improvements to the calendar, the accessibility improvements, and new enterprise features.
