IBM has awarded a “Shared University Grant” of $ 20,000 the University of Pisa Promostudi and the Foundation for the research conducted in the field of information security from the team led by Fabrizio Baiardi and Marcello Montecucco. “We are the only ones – explained Baiardi – to be honored in Italy and Europe for this kind of study: it is a very exclusive recognition that goes through a rigorous selection process in the world.”

The award-winning research from IBM, said in a statement the University of Pisa, “has as its goal the development of tools to automatically evaluate the safety of complex ICT systems: the basic strategy is to simulate how the system reacts to attacks intelligent ICT capable of identifying the best routes to penetrate it, control it and steal any valuable information. ”

The researchers stressed Baiardi, have used “an original approach because it allows to evaluate the safety in the design phase and this allows you to use a computer system only after having ensured and improved safety, while at present, in many cases, these problems are discovered only later when the system is already used by end users. ” The prize money will be used to fund scholarships for graduates and graduate students to assist with ongoing research.
